Dr. Angus Milne, BSc, DVM

Education: University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine
Hometown: Dundee, Scotland

Dr. Angus was born in Dundee, Scotland, and grew up on a mixed farm. Having worked hands-on with sheep and cattle from a young age, the obvious progression from school (for him, at least!) was veterinary school. Dr. Angus attended the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine, earning his veterinary degree in 2020.

Working close to home initially, he gained experience in mixed and large-animal practice in Dundee, Scotland, for four years. His patient base included mostly equine patients, along with cattle, sheep, alpacas, and even the occasional giant anteater at the local wildlife park!

After enjoying a ski season in British Columbia in 2023, he decided to sample the East Coast of Canada (to chase his Irish partner) and moved to Niagara in March 2025. Since joining Niagara Falls Animal Medical Centre, he has developed a love for small-animal practice, along with the friendly clients and patients of the area.

Dr. Angus has a strong interest in surgery, dentistry, and preventative medicine. Along with providing high-quality patient care, he recognises that pet owners are an integral part of the veterinary team and greatly enjoys building strong relationships with clients.

Outside of work, Dr. Angus plays rugby for the Niagara Wasps, enjoys local trivia nights, and loves to hike. Weather permitting, skiing is his favourite hobby—and if he weren’t a veterinarian, he would have been a ski instructor. Although he does not currently have pets of his own, he does live with five cats and one dog!

Dr. Ron Mergl, Veterinarian, BSc, DVM, MSc

Education: Ontario Veterinary College

Hometown: Pelham

It is with both profound sadness and immense gratitude that we remember Dr. Ron Mergl, who purchased Niagara Falls Animal Medical Centre with his wife, Dr. June Mergl, in 1987. For 35 remarkable years, Dr. Ron Mergl dedicated his life to veterinary medicine with a compassion and excellence that left an indelible mark on our community and far beyond.

Born in Welland and raised in Pelham, Dr. Mergl's academic journey led him from honors at the University of Guelph to earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ontario Veterinary College in 1985. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to improving veterinary practices saw him further attain a Master’s degree in Zoonotic diseases from Brock University.

Dr. Mergl’s legacy is not just one of professional achievements, which include the prestigious Ontario Veterinary Medical Association Award of Merit in 2014 for his humanitarian efforts both locally and globally. It is also a story of boundless love for his family, deep faith, and a dedication to serving others that knew no bounds. Alongside his beloved wife, June, he built a life rich with joy, purpose, and adventure, raising three sons, nurturing countless pets, and contributing significantly to the fabric of the Niagara community.

Ron's kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit of service were the foundation upon which the Niagara Falls Animal Medical Centre stands. His commitment to animal welfare, exemplified by his leadership in the Rotary Human Rabies Prevention Project in Uganda and his participation in international polio immunization days, reflects a life lived in service to both animals and humanity.

Dr. Mergl's passions extended beyond the realm of veterinary medicine. A lover of the great outdoors, adventure sports, and the arts, he embraced life with a zest and energy that inspired all who knew him. Whether it was scaling Kilimanjaro with his family, engaging in wilderness adventures, or sharing his love for music, Ron's spirit was one of joy, resilience, and boundless curiosity.

As we continue to navigate the future of Niagara Falls Animal Medical Centre, we do so with Ron's spirit guiding us. His belief in the power of community, compassion for all living beings, and dedication to making the world a better place remain at the core of our mission.

Dr. Ron Mergl's legacy is one of extraordinary impact, profound kindness, and an enduring love that will forever be a part of our centre's story. We honor his memory by continuing to serve our community with the same dedication and heart that he exemplified every day of his life.

To Dr. Ron, a visionary, mentor, friend, and much-loved family man, you may have left this world, but your legacy lives on through the lives you touched, the community you nurtured, and the family you loved so deeply. Thank you for everything, Dr. Ron. You are profoundly missed but will forever be remembered.
